In an exhilarating move, Finnish disc golfer Jesse Nieminen partners with Team Kastaplast for the upcoming 2024 season. This collaboration marks a significant step for Nieminen, as he embarks on a journey to showcase Kastaplast discs in his home country of Finland and beyond.
"It feels great and I am excited. It's a unique chance to show off the Kastaplast discs in Finland," says Nieminen, expressing his enthusiasm for the new chapter in his disc golf career.
Nieminen, known for his exceptionally smooth forehand throws and strategic gameplay, provides insight into his playing style, stating, "I might not throw the furthest forehands, but I have very good control over the angle and with that the ability to throw understable discs. I also consider myself a smart player who knows when to attack for birdies and when to play it safe."
Looking back at 2023, this was arguably his best season in his career. With an all time high of prize money earnings, multiple podium finishes and a shimmering silver medal from the European Championships around his neck.
"I worked on improving my backhand a lot coming in to the 2023 season. I started to really see results in late June. That made managing the courses easier, which resulted in more opportunities and less mistakes," says Jesse.
As he gears up for the 2024 season, Nieminen shares his plan, "Right now, I am practicing and learning my new discs. But when it comes to events in 2024, I plan to play full time at the DGPT with both US and European events." His dedication and focus on integrating the new equipment into his game are evident as he prepares for the challenges ahead.
With goals set for the upcoming season, Nieminen reveals, "I have a simple goal, and that is to qualify and play the DGPT Championships. But mostly, I just want to evolve and become a better disc golfer who can challenge the best in the world in the big events."
Nieminen's excitement for the 2024 season is palpable, particularly as he anticipates participating in the Champions Cup, an event he has yet to experience. "I have played most of the big events already, but not the Champions Cup, so that's one I am looking forward to," he adds.
When asked about what is special about Kastaplast discs, Nieminen highlights the high-quality plastic and unique molds. "The plastic is really high quality. I really like the grippiness. Kastaplast also has some really unique molds, like the Berg, for example."
Speaking of his favorite Kastaplast discs, Nieminen reveals, "I really love the Berg. It's my new favorite disc, helping me in an area of my game where I struggle the most – short to medium-long approach shots. The slow-flying Berg really aids me there. I also like throwing the Järn, an overstable midrange. In the driver slots, Vass and Guld are my favorites."
