Greetings!
We have exciting news for you today. Here are a few words from Anders Källström, Brand Manager of Kastaplast - introducing the next release:
Four years ago, we released our first batch of recycled plastic from the factory. It came out in various shades of brown, followed by dark green and black - colors that, admittedly, weren’t the most popular among disc golfers. In the latest batch of the Stig, the source plastic was more carefully sorted, resulting in five distinct colors.
That marked a major step forward, but it still didn’t create the impact we were hoping for with our customers. Now, further steps have been taken to produce a disc with an appealing core and a striking exterior—and thanks to our factory in Skellefteå, we’ve succeeded.
Kastaplast has always operated with the environment in mind, and one way to support that mission is by using as much of the materials we purchase as possible, including scrap and discarded discs. To make these products more appealing, we decided to give them their own line: K1 Grind.
They’ll be more visually striking compared to our regular stock discs, though not entirely unique within the disc golf scene. You’ve probably seen similar effects under names like Halo, Orbit, or Horizon. To us it serves as an indicator to distinguish them from the stock run. The outer ring will always be white, while the inner color will vary across five main shades: green, blue, yellow, red, and black.
Our hope is that this will be better for everyone involved! Customers get a visually unique disc at the same price as regular K1 plastic. Retailers enjoy a better margin compared to the stock alternative. It’s also a win for us, as we can make better use of resources in production - and ultimately, we all win when companies tread more lightly on the planet.
I know that I’ve said that we will never produce discs in this way, with a corona effect, but I’m not above changing my mind if the cause is important. And honestly, I really like how they turned out!
Best regards,
Anders
The new K1 Grind line is made with 100% recycled plastic and will be released on May 8th. Idog, Älva, Guld, Berg, Lots and Falk is first out of the gate - all current molds except Rask will be included in the line, availability of ground materiel decides colors and selection.
The new discs have unfortunately not reached US soil yet due to delays in transit, this might affect the US release date slightly. Stay tuned for more information.
